Food bank holds AGM
The Nunavut food bank is expanding its reach by including outlying communities
in its second annual general meeting on Sunday.
"This is the first year that people from other communities are invited
to participate," said Jennifer Creber, the food bank's fundraising co-ordinator.
One of the food bank's objectives in the past year has been to build stronger
relations with its member communities. Thanks to money donated by First Air
at its charity ball last year it was recently able to provide the Cambridge
Bay and Arviat food banks with $500 each.
Part of the First Air donation will also go toward a sea lift order arriving
this summer.
"We've been really trying to include other communities in the process
because we couldn't do so in the past," Creber added.
Beside electing a new board, members will review the budget and discuss the
group's priorities and plans for the upcoming year.
Other items on the agenda include fundraising strategies and the sustainability
of the food bank. Although Creber said she didn't know what to expect from the
brainstorming session, she anticipates good results.
The meeting will be held at the Navigator Inn beginning at 3 p.m.
