The election at a glance
When may I vote?
- Jan. 12 - Campaign begins, nomination period opens.
- Jan. 16 - Nomination period ends at 2 p.m., candidates may withdraw by 5
p.m.
- Feb. 2 to Feb. 12 - Voters may cast ballots at the returning officer's
office.
- Feb. 9 - Mobile poll in the morning; advance poll from noon to 7 p.m.
- Feb. 11 - First day you can get a certificate for proxy voting.
- Feb. 12 - Last day you can vote at the returning officer's office.
- Feb. 13 - Deadline for receipt of special ballots from students or people
away in hospital.
- Feb. 16 - Election day, polls open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; 3 p.m. is the
last time you can get a proxy certificate.
How may I vote?
- You may vote on election day, Feb. 16, in the advance poll on Feb. 9 or
at the returning officer's office between Feb. 2 and Feb. 12. You may also
vote by proxy, radio or satellite phone, special ballot or during the mobile
poll.
How may I donate money to a candidate?
- You may donate only during the election period, from Jan. 12 to Feb. 16,
not before or after that time.
- A person, a business, or an organization may donate up to $1,500 to each
candidate.
- You may give money only to the candidate's authorized financial agent (formerly
known as "official agent").
- You will get an official tax receipt for your donation.
How much may candidates spend?
- Each candidate may spend up to $30,000 - a candidate may spend up to $30,000
of his or her own money.
