Canadian Ranger Liza Ningiuk of Grise Fiord, Nunavut, shows Captain Chris Bergeron, leader of a Canadian Forces Arctic sovereignty patrol this past April, the direction to follow after consulting a map during a halt on Lougheed Island, 1,065 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. The Department of National Defence wants to use Resolute Bay as a permanent training base for such activities in the future. (FILE PHOTO)
