Kamotiq liquor license suspended
Iqaluit’s Kamotiq Inn won’t be allowed to serve alcohol for the next month and a half, thanks to a ruling handed down by Nunavut’s liquor licensing board last Wednesday.
Dave Wilman, the chair of the liquor board, said they found the restaurant had not complied with an earlier ruling, handed down in mid-2005, after the restaurant was fined for liquor act violations.
That ruling ordered the establishment to properly train its servers to ensure that customers are not over-served alcohol.
In March this year the Kamotiq received a reminder they must provide proof that this training took place, Wilman said, but “they never did that.”
So this past Wednesday the restaurant’s liquor license was suspended for 45 days, beginning last Thursday.
