October 6, 2006 Inuktitut the focus of Avataq’s AGMNunavik’s Avataq Cultural Institute is holding its annual general meeting on Oct. 10 to 12 in Kuujjuaq. An Avataq news release says this year’s AGM will focus on the its Inuktituurniup Saturtauninga (Strengthening Inuktitut) project to reverse the downward slide of Inuktitut. Avataq’s Strengthening Inuktitut planning committee has set aside the last day of the meeting to discuss where Inuktitut stands today. Delegates will be invited to participate in a mini pilot-project to test the community-based appproach, which the project plans to use in communities over the next three years. This year’s AGM is will be the first with representatives from Nunavik‘s 15 cultural committees. Until this year, Avataq’s AGM was first and foremost an elders’ conference.TOP |
