Seawater begins to freeze on the shores of
Kimmirut this past Friday. Despite this sign
of colder days to come, most of the eastern
Arctic continues to see unusually warm
weather for this time of year. The rocky
outcrop seen jutting into the water is the
community’s namesake, called “kimmirut,”
or “heel” because of its shape. (PHOTO BY
