Nunavut’s 23 new electoral districts?

Baffin: 12 MLAs: Kivalliq: 7 MLAs; Kitkmeot: 4 MLAs

Here are the 23 electoral districts recommended by the Nunavut Electoral Bound­aries Commission, with their proposed new names and estimated numbers of voters.

They would replace the 19 electoral districts recommended by the first boundaries commission, who did their work between 1997 and 1998, in advance of Nunavut’s first territorial election on February 15, 1999.

  • Arviat North: 497 voters
  • Arviat South: 497 voters
  • Igloolik North: 494 voters
  • Ikalututiak: 719 voters
  • Iqaluit Centre: 660 voters
  • Iqaluit Northeast: 660 voters
  • Iqaluit Northwest: 660 voters
  • Iqaluit South-Kimmirut: 660 voters
  • Kangliqliniq North: 653 voters
  • Kangliqliniq South: 653 voters
  • Kingait: 629 voters
  • Kugluktuk: 635 voters
  • Netsilimiut East: 540 voters
  • Pangnirtung: 682 voters
  • Qamani’tuaq: 923 voters
  • Quttiktuq: 580 voters
  • Naujat-Igluligaarjuk-Tikirarjuaq: 666 voters
  • Salliq: 363 voters
  • Sanikiluaq: 407 voters
  • Sanirajak-Igloolik South: 494 voters
  • Tunnuniq: 606 voters
  • Uqqumiut: 687 voters
  • Uqsuqtuq: 538 voters
