Iqaluit resident faces child porn charges

Nunatsiaq News

The RCMP’s Major Crime Unit charged Iqaluit resident James Paton, 34, with four counts of possession of child pornography, one count of sexual assault and one count of sexual interference on Jan. 4.

Paton is scheduled to make his first appearance in the Nunavut Court of Justice Feb. 4.

RCMP V Division inspector Jim MacDougall would not release details surrounding the case other than to say the charges are not connected with a Baker Lake RCMP officer charged with possession of pornography last week.

Child pornography is any written or visual material that sexually depicts children under the age of 18.

Sexual interference refers to unwanted sexual touching of a child under the age of 14.
