January 18, 2002 Mountie quits amid controversy Baker Lake Cpl. Paul Raymond Richer, 36, resigned from the RCMP on Jan. 16. Officials would not say why the 14-year officer resigned. On Jan. 4, Richer was charged with possession of child pornography. In addition to the criminal charge, Richer has been the subject of an internal police investigation. Police would not say if the internal investigation will continue. Richer is scheduled to appear in Nunavut Court of Justice on March 12.
