Nault holds tight in shuffle
Robert Nault, the minister
of Indian affairs and northern development, will keep his position in cabinet
after a sweeping cabinet shuffle on Tuesday that added 10 new MPs and dropped
seven.
Among returning ministers
alone, Prime Minister Jean Chrétien made 13 changes, including promoting
John Manley to deputy prime minister and moving Allan Rock to the industry portfolio
vacated by Brian Tobin.
Alfonso Gagliano, who has
been criticized for suggestions he interfered in the affairs of a Crown corporation,
was removed from the public works portfolio and made ambassador to Denmark.
Ethel Blondin-Andrew, secretary
of state for children and youth, also kept her position.
