Cambridge Bay man convicted of bootlegging

A Cambridge Bay man was fined $2,000 and placed on probation for one year for illegal liquor possession.

Samuel Browne was sentenced at Nunavut Court of Justice on Jan. 28. Justice John Vertes ordered the forfeit and destruction of $3,000 of money and alcohol seized from Browne’s home in connection with the conviction.

Police and community residents in Cambridge Bay have been pulling together to curtail the illicit sale of alcohol in the community. RCMP said Browne’s conviction and sentence is a positive step in that direction.
