Aeroplan revises point
requirements
Northern flyers will again
be able to earn free flights south on Air Canada with only 15,000 Aeroplan points.
On Dec. 5, Aeroplan, Air
Canadas frequent flyer program, revised its program to require 25,000
points for a free return flight between Whitehorse and British Columbia, direct
flights between Iqaluit and Montreal or Ottawa, and non-stop flights between
Rankin Inlet and Winnipeg on First Air, or direct flights on Calm Air.
In response to feedback
from Aeroplan customers, officials issued a release Jan. 30 stating they would
return to the 15,000-point requirement.
"From the ongoing
dialogue we have had with the communities Air Canada serves, we recognize the
unique situation of our Northern members when travelling to a neighbouring province,"
Aeroplan president and CEO Rupert Duchesne said in the release. "We have
listened and that is why we have reinstated short-haul redemption status on
a number of Northern routes."
The revised policy is retroactive
to Dec. 5, the date of the original policy change. Aeroplan members who have
redeemed travel on those routes since that date can ask can for the 10,000-mile
difference be credited to their Aeroplan account by mailing their boarding card
or ticket with their Aeroplan number to the companys service centre.
