CLOs on the way

Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated is giving almost $1.7 million to hire 18 new community liaison officers in Nunavut. The jobs are expected to be filled in phases beginning in April.

The officers will act as a liaison between the community and their regional Inuit organizations, though a final job description has not yet been determined.

Qikiqtaaluk region communities will get 11 positions, the Kivvaliq region will get six and the Kitikmeot will get one. The proposed salary for each position is about $50,000 a year plus benefits.

In the Qikiataaluk region, four officers will be hired in April in Grise Fiord, Qikiqtarjuaq, Hall Beach and Sanikiluaq. Three officers will be hired in Pond Inlet, Cape Dorset and Clyde River in June, and four more will be hired in September in Kimmirut, Resolute Bay, Arctic Bay and Pangnirtung.

Iqaluit will not receive a community liaison officer as there are resources already in place to do the job.
