Woman charged with assault heads to court in April

Justice of the Peace Bill Riddell released Martha Inuqtaqau, 46, after a show cause hearing on Feb. 27 in Iqaluit. Inuqtaqau, who spent four days in custody, faces one count of assault with a weapon stemming from an incident on Saturday, Feb. 23.

Before releasing Inuqtaqau, Riddell read the charge, which identified the weapon as a knife.

Inuqtaqau is scheduled to make her first appearance in Nunavut Court of Justice on April 8.
