Brown water woes

People living in the central and lower areas of Iqaluit may have noticed their tap water looked a little like mud this week.

A water main break could have resulted in brown coloured water for a couple of days. The brown colour could have been caused by sediment in the pipes, such as iron, but a public announcement went out assuring residents the water was not harmful and was safe to consume.

The break was isolated and was being repaired on Wednesday. A city employee said no houses were on the line. The city expects to do full repairs on the pipe this summer.
