Teachers, GN, in negotiations

The federation of Nunavut teachers is in its final scheduled round of contract negotiations with the department of education.

The teachers’ contract expires June 30, and three sets of negotiating sessions have taken place. The first round began Feb. 14, the second round began March 28 and the third round began April 27.

The third round was expected to end on Wednesday, but was still in progress as of press-time. It could continue beyond its scheduled time if negotiations don’t go as planned, said Lou Budgell, president of the federation.

"The final scheduled round is not necessarily the last," he said.

Details of the negotiations cannot be reported until negotiations have ended.
