New emergency numbers

As of Sept. 3, it will be easier than ever for Nunavimmiut to receive emergency help. The 911 service available in the South is being adapted for the region, so that the last four digits of the phone numbers for police, firefighters and medical staff will be the same in all of the region’s 14 communities.

The last four digits for the Kativik Regional Police Force will be 9111, for the firefighters 9000 and for the hospitals or clinics 9090.

In July, Bell Canada will insert an information pamphlet into invoices. An advertising and information campaign is also planned during the month of August to remind residents of the changeover.
