Sanikiluaq sex offender gets more time

Johnny Emikotailak, 38, was sentenced to one year in jail after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual assault involving minors dating back to the 1980s.

Emikotailak, now at Fenbrook Institution in Gravenhurst, Ontario, is 14 years into an 18-year federal sentence he’s serving for convictions on previous sexual offences.

The most recent charges stem from incidents involving minors in Sanikiluaq in 1984 and 1986. On two separate occasions, Emikotailak held a five-year-old girl and a seven-year-old girl in a room while touching them in a sexual manner.

In one encounter, Emikotailak told the girl not to tell anyone about the assault.

The one-year sentence will be served concurrently with the 18-year sentence.
