Irate inmate no longer welcome at BCC

Adamie Samayualie, 34, is being transferred to Fenbrook Federal Penitentiary after causing $9,400 in damage to Baffin Correctional Centre’s recreation room on May 25.

Samayualie was half-way through an 11-month sentence for another offence when he flipped a pool table, ripped several pay phones from the wall and broke three large windows with pool balls. Earlier that day, Samayualie had violated BBC rules by verbally abusing a guard.

Inmates and guards fled while Samayualie trashed the room. At one point, court heard, he told a guard, "When I get out of here in five months I’m coming to hunt your head.... I will put a bullet in your head."

Crown lawyer John Solski said such rampages are a cause for concern. "[BCC staff] should not be subjected to this kind of behavior. It is simply intolerable and should be strongly sanctioned," Solski said.

Justice Beverley Brown sentenced Samayualie to six months in jail after he pleaded guilty to mischief and uttering threats.
