Get help, judge orders man

Lucassie Kootoo, 39, was sentenced to nine months at Baffin Correctional Centre after pleading guilty to one count of assault and two counts of uttering threats.

Police were arresting Kootoo for assault when he called to his spouse, "I love you, too. I’m going to kill you in a couple of days," court heard.

While in the cells at Iqaluit’s RCMP detachment, Kootoo repeatedly threatened to kill another family member and himself.

Kootoo, who had been drinking, said he didn’t remember the entire incident.

Justice Beverley Browne told Kootoo he’s doomed to fail as a father without alcohol treatment.

"You seem like an intelligent man but you’re not acting like a good parent," Browne said.
