Iqaluit beating victim dies at BRH

A well-known Iqaluit man died this week at the Baffin Regional Hospital as a result of injuries suffered in a brutal beating inflicted upon him on July 13.

David Nowdlak, 41, a former Iqaluit town councillor and legal aid worker at Maliganik Tukisiniakvik, died in the early morning hours of Aug. 7.

An unknown assailant, or assailants, attacked Nowdlak as he was walking home in the early hours of July 13.
He was treated at an Ottawa hospital for at least two weeks, but was moved back to Baffin Regional Hospital in Iqaluit last weekend.

Nowdlak never regained consciousness after the beating, and has been in a coma ever since.

Police have yet to lay a charge in connection with the incident.

As of Nunatsiaq News press-time Aug. 7, funeral services had yet to be scheduled.
