Woman fakes unconsciousness to end assault

Pingoatuk Kolola, 32, was sentenced to 45 days in jail and one year of probation after pleading guilty to one count of assault.

Kolola punched, kicked and stomped on the wrists of his girlfriend before starting to choke her on Aug. 17.

Alcohol was a factor, the court heard.

The woman pretended to pass out and only then did Kolola stop choking her, said Crown lawyer Judy Chan.

Kolola fled the house and was later arrested.

Defence lawyer Euan Makay said his client’s relationship with the woman is over and Kolola plans to move back to Kimmirut.
