Man gets jail time for violating no-drinking order

Darrel Qaqasiq, 25, of Pangnirtung was sentenced to 44 days in jail after pleading guilty to two violations of his undertaking not to consume alcohol.

Qaqasiq shortchanged a store clerk for cigarettes and then caused a disturbance outside an Iqaluit store on Aug. 31. Police said Qaqasiq was "highly intoxicated" at the time.

Three weeks later, Qaqasiq was at Iqaluit’s medical boarding home when he caused another drunken disturbance, again breaching his undertaking.

Justice Beverley Browne took into account the one week Qaqasiq spent in jail when handing down the 44-day sentence.
