Cheating husband lashes out at wife

Nushupik Kilabuk, 36, was sentenced to six months in jail after pleading guilty to assault with a weapon, mischief and violating the conditions of an undertaking.

The complainant found her husband "involved" with another woman on Aug. 14, at the couple’s Iqaluit home, the court heard.

After exchanging heated words, Kilabuk threw a chair at his wife and then waved a hammer at her, said Crown lawyer Judy Chan. Their eight-year-old son was home at the time.

A week later, Kilabuk smashed the two front windows of the house where the woman was living. On both nights, the woman and her child sought refuge at the women’s shelter.

Justice Beverley Browne sentenced Kilabuk to five months in jail for the chair-throwing and 60 days for the broken windows. He’ll spend one year on probation upon his release from BCC.
