Public meetings wrap up

More than 145 Nunavummiut attended public meetings in Arctic Bay, Taloyoak, Chesterfield Inlet, Baker Lake and Kugluktuk held by the legislative assembly’s special committee to review the Official Languages Act.

The act was inherited from the Northwest Territories on April 1, 1999.

Because of weather, the committee was unable to travel to Sanikiluaq and Qikiqtarjuaq, although those meetings will be rescheduled.

The committee must present its final report to the legislative assembly in 2003. Copies of the first interim report are available from the legislative assembly, or online at www.assembly.nu.ca.
