KRPF seize $30,000 in drug profits

The Kativik Regional Police continued its campaign against drugs last week, seizing $29,000 in drug-related profits March 9 in Kuujjuaraapik.

Police acted on a tip from a concerned resident and found the stash hidden in a Playstation cartridge box at the airport.

The money allegedly came from the sale of at least 580 grams of marijuana.

An Air Inuit passenger had carried the money out of Umiujak and was going to transfer it to a person in Kuujjuaraapik. This second person was then to send the package to a man in Chisasibi via Air Creebec.

But police confiscated the box before it was transferred.

Police are continuing their investigation and will likely charge those involved with trafficking.

The press release said the KRPF has seized $36,000 in drug-related profits since the beginning of March.

Police reminded the public that ignorance of a package’s contents is not a defense against drug possession or trafficking charges.

If an individual agrees to carry a package without knowing its contents, and it contains drugs, the person risks charges, the release said.
