SQ probe jail-guard sex-for-drugs allegation

Sleeping woman sexually assaulted in cell

JANE GEORGE

The Sûrété du Québec provincial police are investigating allegations that a jail guard in Puvirnituq accepted a bribe in exchange for letting a male prisoner sexually assault a sleeping female prisoner in a nearby cell.

On May 1 in Puvirnituq, sources allege that a man guarding two prisoners in the local police station cells allowed a male prisoner in one cell to enter another cell that housed a passed-out female prisoner.

The sources allege that the guard did this in exchange for drugs.

Once inside the sleeping woman's cell, the male prisoner is alleged to have sexually assaulted her while the guard watched.

The SQ has been called in to investigate. Earlier this week, the SQ was unable to confirm any details, other than to say that it is now under investigation.

Jobie Epoo, the acting chief of the Kativik Regional Police Force, planned to meet with the municipal council of Puvirnituq to set up a public security committee.
