Photo: Armed man arrested at Qikiqtani General Hospital

An ambulance stands by the driveway to Iqaluit’s Qikiqtani General Hospital at around 2 p.m. April 19, during an armed standoff there that ended at around 2:40 p.m. Police arrested a 23-year-old man, armed with a rifle, who took over the hospital lobby at around 12:55 p.m.. All or most staff and patients were evacuated from the building and a police emergency response unit surrounded the area.
