By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Sherry Ann Makiuk, 14, mixes glycerin into a concoction that will become a natural bug spray—just in time for bug season in Nunavik. Makiuk is an Independent Learning Path student at Kuujjuaq’s Jaanimmarik high school and a participant in its “Girls Project,” which produces homemade soaps, essential oils, creams and now bug spray. The project has teamed up with a local company, Avataa, which does transport and camp logistics for visiting businesses; Girls Project will start to distribute their products through Avataa this summer.
