Hare’s looking at you, kid. This Arctic hare is in the midst of doffing its white winter coat and donning its mottled brown one so it can better blend into the earthen tundra on which it thrives. This one was seen June 10th near Arctic Bay, beside Marcil Lake. Arctic hares are cute to look at but they’re also wily, resourceful and, for those who harvest them, good to eat. That is if you can catch them: hares have eyes on either side of their skulls so they can see in all directions at once. They can also jump farther than two metres in a single bound, according to the Canadian Geographic website. (PHOTO BY CLARE KINES)
