The $11-million Churchill Northern Studies Centre held its grand opening Aug. 24.  “This outstanding new facility builds on a 35-year record of world-class research and education at the Churchill Northern Studies Centre,” Canadian Polar Commission chair Bernie Funston said Aug. 31. “It means Churchill will be a key link in Canada’s northern research network for many years to come.


The $11-million Churchill Northern Studies Centre held its grand opening Aug. 24. “This outstanding new facility builds on a 35-year record of world-class research and education at the Churchill Northern Studies Centre,” Canadian Polar Commission chair Bernie Funston said Aug. 31. “It means Churchill will be a key link in Canada’s northern research network for many years to come.” The Canadian Polar Commission held a board meeting to coincide with the new centre’s openening. The Churchill Northern Studies Centre is one of 20 that received funding from Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada’s Arctic Research Infrastructure Fund, which also paid for renovations and upgrades to the Polar Continental Shelf Program’s facilities in Resolute Bay.
