Inukjuak’s co-op hotel won a top award from the centre for commercial wood construction June 2 in Quebec City.

Inukjuak’s co-op hotel picked up a prestigious design prize last week in Quebec City.

The commercial wood builders centre, le centre d’expertise sur la construction commerciale en bois, gave the hotel first “cecobois” prize in its “innovative solutions” category for the hotel’s quality, inventiveness, creativity, adaptability and contribution to existing construction techniques.

The hotel resembles other new hotels that the Fédération des co-opératives du Nouveau-Québec has built in Nunavik over the past few years.

The hotel’s construction used prefabricated sections, which were joined and finished locally.

The result is “a group of functional and economic buildings, which are easily recognized by their shape and distinct colour,” said a news release on the award.
