City asks for money

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

The City of Iqaluit is on a mission to get more dollars for infrastructure.

The city estimates it will need $42 million to pay for road, sewer and water projects.

The mayor has sent a letter to the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs outlining Iqaluit’s infrastructure needs and financial shorfalls. The letter is a follow-up to a meeting Mayor John Matthews had with DIAND minister Robert Nault.

The city administration also lobbied the Nunavut government for money. On Dec. 12, council met with Nunavut’s deputy ministers of finance, and community government and transportation.
