Former crown prosecutor kicked out of town

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Following a night of boozing and violence, police arrested Louis Christian-Boisvert, a former crown prosecutor in Kuujjuaq, in connection with a violent domestic dispute and disorderly conduct.

Boisvert, who had left Kuujjuaq several months ago following a Skidoo accident in which he broke both his legs, had returned to visit his girlfriend, a teacher at Jaanimmarik School.

On Friday evening, a man and his girlfriend, who had been drinking at the Ikkaqivvik Bar, began to argue at her residence. Police were called in.

Doctors later treated the woman at Kuujjuaq’s Tulattavik Hospital for a broken collarbone.

Police arrested Boisvert, and then released him on his own recognizance.

Afterward, bar staff called police, and Boisvert was arrested again.

Boisvert was released on the condition that he leave the community the following day.

Boisvert’s charges will be transferred to a southern court.

If found guilty, Boisvert’s suitability to remain a lawyer will be reviewed by the Quebec Bar Association.
