Frozen pipe means kids delight

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

There’s usually not much to celebrate when Arctic temperatures freeze up the plumbing, but it’s unlikely the students at Joamie Ilinniarvik agree.

Frozen pipes gave Joamie elementary kids a day off last Tuesday. It was a quick fix by the maintenance crew, however, and students and staff were back in the classroom the next day, said principal David Serkoak.

“It was a simple freeze-up and there was no damage done,” said Serkoak.

A number of schools across Atlantic Canada were closed the same day because of frozen or burst pipes. At Joamie, 206 students from kindergarten to Grade 5 were affected by the school’s closure.
