Welfare recipients can earn more money

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Education Minister Peter Kilabuk announced this week that income support recipients will be allowed to earn slightly larger amounts of money before the government claws earned income back from their welfare payments.

As of July 1, families on income support may earn up to $400 a month without having any money deducted from their welfare cheques.

Single people may earn up to $200 a month before the government starts deducting money from them.

The old rates were $300 for families and $150 for individuals.
